John R. Nelson

Mr. Nelson’s career incorporates operating experience as an executive where he has been involved with both investment finance and technology-related industries. His international experience has emphasized the Asia-Pacific region, where he has worked for two decades involved in cross-border investments, multi-national manufacturing operations, and market development.

He has 20+ years as institutional venture capital Managing Partner, including leadership roles in 6 fund management groups. Before the formation of the CalCap, Mr. Nelson was Managing Director of the Technology Gateway Funds, L.P. of Ventana Global Funds, Ltd. He also has been a Managing Director and/or Venture Partner with Maximum Life Accelerator Fund, Shepherd Ventures, and The CanAm Fund.

Prior to this role, he held a contract with the Commonwealth of Australia, functioning as that nation’s Investment Director, North America. In this capacity, he represented the Ministry of Treasury and the Department of Industries, Technology, and Technology (DIST) by providing investment services related to mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, technology transfers, and greenfields manufacturing investments.

He has held a variety of executive roles in operating companies ranging from Fortune 500 (National Computer Systems, where he was Sr. Vice President) to turn-arounds (Cycle, Inc. where he took over as CEO), to start-ups (such as Int’l Technology Systems, where he was Chairman/CEO). He has served on boards of directors for both public and private companies.

Mr. Nelson’s academic and research background include: ABD (Ph.D. qualified) from the University of Oregon; doctoral skill certification in Computer Technology; an M.B.A./D.B.A. candidacy in Marketing Management; and, joint Bachelor degree(s) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.



Kevin Borley

Kevin Borley is MD of KJB Associates and is the Principal of “The CIO Partnership”.
Mr. Borley specialises in providing specialist Interim IT Directors and CIO’s to IT-dependant organisations.

The CIO Partnership is a consulting and advisory firm providing specialist Executive IT management support to Board members and major shareholders of organisations who cannot justify a full time CIO, but who can benefit from specialist IT management advice on technology delivery and sourcing issues. Additionally, the partnership also assists local IT managers to create a business focused IT service that delivers a major contribution to the bottom line of the business.

Kevin has built a successful corporate IT management career with blue chip multinationals, such as EMI, Thorn, The London International Group, Granada Group Plc, Bertelsmann Buch AG (Book Club Associates) and Syntegra (part of the BT Group).

For the past 20 years Kevin has been in the forefront of corporate IT management and has held IT service delivery responsibility and IT Director and CIO roles, in international organisations. Kevin has also managed IT delivery across a wide and diverse range of businesses in the UK and across Europe, the USA and Asia-Pac. He has also held membership of a number senior CIO advisory forums.

His experience includes the management of business change programmes, IT planning, support for M&A activity and resulting integration, re-vitalising underperforming IT organisations, outsourcing and in-sourcing programmes and management of service providers, in addition to operational management of commercially critical and large scale IT service delivery organisations.

Raised in London and having travelled extensively, Kevin now lives with his family in Wiltshire.



Dr. Rolf Witte

Dr. Witte´s career has been focused both in general and investment management in the new technology industries.

Dr. Rolf Witte has worked for over twenty years in the private equity industry, mostly on behalf of institutional investors and venture capital providers. These roles have been interspersed by operational and restructuring roles.

Currently Rolf Witte is Founder, Partner and CEO of fundamenta CAPITAL AG based in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany. fundamenta is a hands on investment fund which is focused in the Biotech, Pharma, Medical Device and new technology sectors. Rolf is also chief financial officer of CMI GmbH, a contract medical device company based in Dresden, Germany.

Prior to founding fundamenta, Rolf spent ten years in the European textile industry, first as chief executive officer of Pegasus Beteiligungen AG, a public traded investment fund, and more latterly, as chief financial officer of several publicly quoted textile companies. Before this Rolf was active in the reinsurance industry working for Hannover Reinsurance. Prior to this he worked as a lawyer specialising in audit and tax advice.

Dr. Witte´s academic background includes degrees in Economics and Law, Dipl. Kfm. and Ass. iur., as well as a Ph.D. in tax law from the University of Goettingen. He also was awarded a research fellowship by the DFG (Deutsche Forschungs Gemeinschaft) for researching VAT harmonization at the European Commisson in Brussels.
